Aphaia Collection

A dual reference, for a composite and fascinating design. Aphaia, the marble furniture collection designed by the Claesson Koivisto Rune studio for Kreoo, draws inspiration on one hand from the grandeur of classical architecture, while on the other, it blends these references with an ode to nature and its organic forms.

The typical groove of Greek and Roman columns and their continuously dynamic profile suggest the starting point of the collection, which includes coffee tables in various sizes, a dining table, and a ‘bar table’, all entirely made of marble. Their structure is column-like, mirroring the inspiration theme, with a crafted outline that creates subtle undulations, continuous and identical to one another: an extraordinary relief pattern, sculpted by hand from a solid block of marble, enhancing the exceptional chromatic layers and the stone veins, further emphasized by the play of light and shadow.

The ribs are soft and radiate from the base to the underside of the top, where they form a circumference marked by broader ripples, creating a new three-dimensional decoration. In this delicate transition, the upper portion of the column opens, almost resembling a natural morphology, that of the mushroom and fungi kingdom, offering a striking tactile experience.

The warm shades of Rosso San Marco marble, the soft veining of Breccia di Sicilia, and the unique colours of Breccia de Vendome — among the various material options in the catalogue — portray Aphaia as a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of furniture. The coffee tables are designed to complement seating systems; they can be chosen individually or grouped into compositions in three different sizes, even with different types of marble. The sculptural table, on the other hand, takes centre stage in an entrance, a living area, a retail or hospitality space, whether indoors or outdoors. Finally, the ‘bar table’ suggests a scenic pedestal for placing vases, luxury objects, or sculptures: an elegant, precious complement for high-end residential and contract projects, in which the synthesis of classical and contemporary design is even more evident.
